## What UnlockSheet does

UnlockSheet checks uploaded Excel files and attempts to remove supported editing restrictions such as worksheet protection and workbook structure protection.

If the protection type is supported, UnlockSheet creates a new editable version of the file for download.

## Supported use cases

## Not supported

UnlockSheet does not support:

- Files that require a password before opening

- Encrypted Excel files

- VBA project passwords

- Unauthorized access

- Files the user does not own or have permission to edit

- Corrupted files Excel cannot open

## Important distinction

Worksheet protection is different from file encryption.

Worksheet protection limits editing inside a workbook that can already be opened.

File encryption prevents the workbook from opening without the correct password.

UnlockSheet helps with supported editing protection. It does not decrypt encrypted Excel files.

## Legal and responsible use

UnlockSheet is intended only for files the user owns, created, manages, or is authorized to edit.

Users should not use UnlockSheet to access, recover, or modify files without permission.

## File handling

UnlockSheet processes uploaded files for the requested unlock attempt.

Because the app uses backend processing, users should review the Security and Privacy pages before uploading files.

Uploaded files should not be stored permanently and should be deleted according to the retention policy described on the Security and Privacy pages.
